Venetian Friends and Lovers
I am currently working on my next novel which is set in Venice and has the working title, Venetian Friends and Lovers. Nineteen years ago I fulfilled my fantasy and bought a small apartment in this craziest and most civilised of cities. It has been an adventure ever since.
(Click here for an article I wrote for The Daily Telegraph when I bought the property.)
Venetian Friends and Lovers will be published later this year but meanwhile here is an early draft of the blurb:
An apartment in Venice, how wonderful! Lily buys an Italian holiday home with the money from her third divorce and invites her two old school friends and their husbands to use it whenever they wish. What ensues is a story of rivalry, betrayal, high drama, comedy, tragedy and the struggle for survival.
Taking place between 2000 and 2010, the characters’ lives are shaped by their individual desires and frailties but also by the historical events and social changes that occur during these years.
Venetian Friends and Lovers is set against the ravishing beauty of Venice, a city that has always had to fight for survival, and the novel is both a celebration and an exploration of the dangerous and seductive power of beauty.
